De-recognise NTRUHS, demands MCI member
Vijayawada: A letter from a member of the Medical Council of India (MCI) to its chairman over the grace marks scam, has irked AP’s health ministry.
MCI member from Telangana Dr K. Ramesh Reddy has sought the intervention of MCI top bosses in the grace marks scam. He has demanded the derecognition of the NTR Health University on the grounds that private medical college owners with a political background had resorted to this.
The Pradesh Congress Committee doctors cell has also written to the Governor and the Union ministry of health and family welfare to dissolve the Executive Council which had passed the controversial resolution, violating the guidelines of the MCI.
Speaking to DC, Dr Ramesh Reddy said that he had lodged a written complaint with the MCI over the alleged violation of its rules and regulations in allotting grace marks. Referring to the 2007 case that took place in the university, he asked why the culprits were protected. “Is it not at the cost of the interests of the university,” he asked, adding the CID should come up with the facts related to re-totalling of marks.
That year, students were notified that applications for personal identification and re-totalling can be submitted on or before 13 December, 2006. Out of 4,076 candidates who appeared for the first year examinations, 992 students were declared failed in anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, he said.
Out of these, 436 students applied for recounting and the process was taken up from 29 January, 2007. “The present case is similar to the re-totaling case,” Dr Reddy said and urged the MCI to appoint an independent inquiry panelto dig out the facts.
