Narayanasamy checks streetlights at night tour
Puducherry: Nearly a month after Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi took to the streets incognito to find out how safe is the place for women, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy visited the streets in the town late in the night to find out the availability of basic amenities.
Chief Minister left his house around 9 pm on Wednesday and visited several areas in the rural and urban areas of the town after receiving several complaints that the streetlights in the town are not functioning.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by education minister R. Kamalakannan and other officials in separate vehicles.
Narayanasamy covered the areas of 12 Assembly constituencies before winding up his visit around midnight. Later the Chief Minister said that he had received complaints from several quarters that the streetlights are not functioning in both rural and urban areas “Complaints were that the streetlights are not functioning. I could find that 80 per cent of the lights are functional where the remaining 20 per cent is not working as there is a dispute that whether it is to be set right by the electricity department or the PWD. The departments were asked to jointly rectify the fault “ he said.
He also said in the next phase, he would visit Mannadipet, Nettapakkam and Ariyankuppam areas.
