16-eye vents shut in Mettur
The vents were opened on September 6 as a precautionary measure.
SALEM: As the inflows into the Stanley reservoir dropped to 18,000 cusecs on Saturday and the water level dipping to 120-feet, the dam's full height level, the PWD authorities shut all the 16 ‘eye-shaped’ vents.
The vents were opened on September 6 as a precautionary measure when inflows into the dam exceeded 73,000 cusecs due to excess discharge from Karnataka. But with inflows now dropping substantially, officials closed all the 16 vents after eight days to stop excess discharge. With the current inflow of 18,000 cusecs, the water level is kept at 120-feet, letting out all the 18,000 cusecs.
