Mysuru: Badminton icon P.V. Sindhu has been invited to inaugurate the Yuva Dasara on October 1 and to also participate in Dasara Sports in Mysuru by the state government.
Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha and Mysuru district Superintendent of Police C.B. Rishyanth visited Sindhu's home in Hyderabad on Saturday to extend the invitation, according to official sources.
Dasara Sports, which will be held from September 29 to October 8, promises to be more exciting this year with the inclusion of some new adventure water sports like rappelling, zip line, and water climbing.
The organisers expect the adventure sports to be popular during Dasara as they have attracted a large number of people at the Varuna Lake where Outback Adventures, a private company, has been offering them round the year. The company had entered into a ten year contract with the tourism department last year. Ever since the water sports took off, over 18,000 people have visited the lake and 40 per cent of them have been from other states, according to Mr Abdul Aleem of Outback Adventures.
In October last year, the company introduced jetskiing, speed boats, kayaking, canoeing, a water trampoline, pedal boats, banana rides and bumper rides at the lake, which have proved hugely popular.
On an average 30 to 40 people visit the lake every day, and during the weekends the number touches around 120, according to Mr Aleem.
