Transgender joins Rajasthan police

The Rajasthan High Court directed the police to process Ganga's appointment within six weeks and consider her selection from 2015.

Jaipur: In a feat that could be a first of a kind, Ganga Kumari, a transgender from Rajasthan is all set to join the security forces.

This move was denied to her by the Rajasthan police, for two years, owing to her gender. Despite clearing the written as well as the physical exams, the 24-year old was denied the job by the state police.

However, after a relentless two years of legal battle she is set to become the first transgender in the state to wear the uniform.

The Rajasthan High Court directed the police to process Ganga’s appointment within six weeks and consider her selection from 2015.

Ganga from Raniwara in Jalore district had applied for police recruitment in 2013 and was selected on February 13, 2015 but her selection was cancelled when she was found to be a transgender in the medical examination.
