Bengaluru:It was a day of fun, frolic and splash of colours inside Whitefield Police Station on Wednesday morning, when 35 children from various government schools painted the walls of the station as part of Children’s Day.
It was the outcome of ‘Campus connect’, a partnership between public and police, organised by Whitefield Ready and the lager Whitefield community in collaboration with Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor (RBITC).
Sumedha, one of the founders of Whitefield Ready told Deccan Chronicle, “This is in continuation with the first wall mural painted in collaboration with Whitefield Rising by Shilo Suleman at the same venue on the topic of Protection of Women. This event also marks the start of the Community Connect programme wherein the police will engage in a series of activities with Govt School children.”
“There has been a pre-conceived notion in children’s minds about the image of police. In order to break that image and build partnership and ease, the event was organised. The theme of the painting was to depict children’s aspirations and dreams give them a nurturing and safe environment and there is nothing that they can’t achieve. The painting effort was led by renowned artist Nilofer Suleman and supported by volunteers from Whitefield Ready and the larger Whitefield community. The materials and other arrangements for the event were sponsored by RBITC,” Sumedha added.
RBITC has also adopted these schools in partnership with Whitefield Ready. Children not only enjoyed the activity they were so excited to see the police station and meet the police personnel, she said.
A total of five schools participated in the event which was held at Whitefield Police Station on Wednesday morning at about 9:30 am. Children from schools like Govt Higher Primary School Ramagondanahalli, Govt Higher Primary School Siddapura, Govt Higher Primary School Nallurhalli, St Joseph’s Kannada Medium and Sammaridhi Bridge School, aided by Whitefield Ready Group.
The group has adopted over seven government schools. On Thursday too, the children would return to the police station to give finishing touches to their paintings.
Deputy Commissioner of police Whitefield Division, Abdul Ahad said, “The children are the future of our country. The Whitefield Police Station welcomed them with open arms and the staff tried their hands at painting with them. Considering the weather, we arranged a Shamiana and necessary infrastructure like tables and chair for the children and the volunteers, to ensure that their stay is comfortable.”
