Hyderabad: City wakes up to foggy skies
Hyderabad: Residents of the city woke up to a nip in the air, after the mercury plummeted to 17°C in the city on Wednesday night.
A metrologists said this was due to the flow of easterly winds over the southern peninsula. The western disturbance was keeping the cold winds from the hilly, icy-cold northern region from reaching down south. “We expect the western disturbance would abate by November 17 or 18. Once that happens, there would be a clear passage for winds from the northern regions to blow over the state,” said Mr Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist, Skymet, a private weather forecasting outfit.
On Thursday, Patancheru recorded 17.3°C, Qutubullapur recorded 17.5ºC and Kapra 17.8°C.
The cold led to a morning haze, which officials of the Telangana State Pollution Control Board attributed to pollutants.
“Whenever the climate cools down, the pollutants which are floating in the air descend onto the ground and they form the fog. Even the fog would’ve developed in such areas and then spread to other regions of the city,” said a senior official of the board.
