Railways one station one product' scheme gains steam
Hyderabad: In order to promote local products and create opportunities for artisans, the Indian Railways had initiated the ‘one station one product’ scheme. The scheme, which was launched by the ministry of railways, was announced during the Union Budget of 2022-23 and has become increasingly popular ever since.
Starting with six railway stations across the South Central Railway zone, the ‘one station one product’ scheme has now been expanded to cover 109 railway stations, with 120 such stalls in place.
In Telangana state, 33 railway stations have 41 stalls, including Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kacheguda, Warangal, Nizamabad and Gadwal, among others.
Some of the products sold at these stalls include handlooms by local weavers from places such as Naraynapet, Gadwal and Pochampalli, TSCO handlooms, millet-based foods, bamboo crafts from Bhadrachalam, toys from Nirmal and local delicacies.
The stalls are allotted based on tenders and the applicants get their allotment on rotation basis by drawing a lottery.
Further, there are provisions in the scheme’s policy to provide opportunities to all applicants. TO achieve this objective, various public outreach measures, including newspaper advertisements, social media announcements and press announcements have been adopted by the railway authorities.
