Kozhikode: Trade, transport hit hard in Malabar
Kozhikode: The dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the BJP passed off peacefully in all parts of Malabar on Friday. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in Kozhikode or suburbs. Hartal supporters placed roadblocks to prevent vehicles from plying at some places but private vehicles were seen plying across the district.
Transport buses, trucks, autorickshaws and goods carriers remained off the road. Private vehicles, mainly two-wheelers, plied to a limited extent. Trading came to a standstill at the commercial hub of Valiyangadi. KSRTC operated limited services to certain destinations, including Wayanad.
The hartal was complete in Wayanad where public life went out of gear as majority public transporting vehicles kept off the road. Schools, government offices and business establishments remained closed.
