KURNOOL: Chief Minister Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu formally laid the foundation stone for the Rs 1500 crore green field manufacturing unit being set up by Chennai-based Ramco Cements at Kalvatala village in Kolimigundla mandal of Kurnool district on Friday.
The plant has the capacity to produce 31.5 lakh tonnes of cement per annum and will employ 500 persons directly and 1,000 persons indirectly in the plant.
Construction activities for the plant are expected to be completed by March 2020. The facility will have Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS) and a thermal power plant to meet its requirements.
Touted as the most modern cement plant in the country, Ramco's CEO and Managing Director Mr P.R. Venkat Rama Raja said that the upcoming ‘greenfield cement project’ would be a state-of-the-art facility, with all the latest technologies available in the cement industry.
“The facility would be environment friendly with no emissions and effluents discharge, focusing on reuse and recycling. Once commissioned, the facility would be a ‘Model Cement Plant’ in the country, with least thermal and electrical energy consumption”, he added.

Chandrababu Naidu, after laying the foundation stone through Video conference visible on a giant screen said, “Kurnool district’s Kolimigundla is an ideal location for the establishment of cement industries in a cluster with good transportation facilities. He said the enabling railway sliding from Sanjanamala to Kolimigundla would act as a catalyst in the growth of the industry.
He said that so far 20 km of the stretch for railway sliding, has been completed and the remaining 3 km would be finished at the earliest.”
The Chief Minister announced that Orwakal airport would be inaugurated soon. He said Kolimiguntla would be developed as cement industry hub and a pharma city would be developed near Orwakal.

Slamming the opposition leaders-YSRC president Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and Jana Sena founder Mr Pawan Kalyan, for obstructing the work being done by the state government, Mr Naidu said that they have been indulging in spreading false propaganda amongst the people.
“People should realise that the present opposition leaders have been quite irresponsible and have taken sides with those who have caused injustice to the state, the BJP. It is also deplorable that these leaders have been supporting the Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who did not want ‘Special Category Status’ to be awarded to Andhra Pradesh. Despite no help from the Centre, the state government has worked hard to achieve everything we have now”, asserted Mr Naidu.
Reeling off the points of progress made by the State in the past four and half years, Mr Naidu said, “Till date, as many as 1695 units, ranging from small to large-scale, have initiated 2632 projects, which are in various stages of completion. The overall investments is around Rs 15,73,172 crore and is expected to generate employment to nearly 33 lakh people.”
In Kurnool district, more than 3 lakh jobs would be created and it is our responsibility to see that all the projects are completed.”
