GHMC ranks poorly in execution of projects
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) readied three major infrastructure projects but failed to complete three other projects that also were racing against a 2023 deadline.
While, the Kothaguda flyover, VST-Indira Park steel bridge and LB Nagar right hand side flyover were inaugurated this year, the Bairamalguda LHS loop, Bairamalguda RHS loop and the Road over Bridge (RoB) at Falaknuma remain incomplete.
As per GHMC records, the probable date for the completion of Nalgonda crossroads to Owaisi junction flyover and Aramghar to Zoo park flyover was also 2023.
Meanwhile, Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) works are moving at a snail's pace. These were taken up to put an end to urban flooding issues that have been haunting people for decades together.
According to records, as against allocations of Rs 985 crore, only 14 of 36 works under SNDP Phase I in GHMC jurisdiction have been completed.
As for the pedestrian-friendly facilities, only the Uppal skywalk wsa duly inaugurated, while the proposed foot overbridges in different parts of the city have been delayed.
The corporation’s property tax collection this year was the highest since its inception, the civic body is struggling to pay salaries to its employees. A record Rs 765 crore property tax was generated under the April 1-30 early bird scheme.
The 13,748 building permits and 2,581 occupancy certificates (OCs) that were issued in 2022-23 raked in Rs 1,454.76 crore in revenue for the corporation.
Meanwhile, towards the Rs 1,000 crore through bonds and Rs 2,500 crore through rupees term loan (RTL) to execute SRDP projects and Rs 1,500 crore for the comprehensive road maintenance programme (CRMP), the GHMC is shelling out Rs 1.3 crore in interest every day. Although sanitation and maintaining cleanliness at tourist locations was outsourced, efforts to improve sanitation at commercial stretches did not yield any tangible results.
