Tirupati: Three gold crowns heist remains a mystery
Tirupati: The sensational broad-daylight heist of three golden crowns in the Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati remains a mystery even after two-weeks have passed.
Though the local police and TTD vigilance and security forces launched an investigation into the theft, there has been no progress even though the theft took place on February 2.
There has been criticism that the urban police wing, which cracked the sensational kidnap case in Tirumala in just a matter of days, had failed in solving the theft of the crowns even two weeks later.
It may be recalled that after the crowns went missing, the Tirupati (Urban) police wing launched a search operation in and around the Govindaraja Swamy temple on February 2, but nothing was found anywhere.
After the cops analysed the CCTV footage collected from the cameras surrounding the temple, they confirmed it was an outside job.
Tirupati SP K.K.N. Anburajan who inspected the temple on the day of the incident immediately constituted six special teams to probe the jewellery theft case and also announced that they had found several vital clues.
On February 4, SP Mr Anburajan released a suspect’s picture and appealed to the public to inform the police if they saw the man in the picture.
Meanwhile, the local police also initiated a search operation at various places across the city and nearby towns of Renigunta, Chandragiri etc but could not trace the suspect.
It was learnt that the police also took several suspects into custody but after interrogation released them after it was found that they were not linked to the case.
