Women neglected in AP Budget, charges YSRC

R.K. Roja said the Telugu Desam government had once again proved that it was anti-women.

VIJAYAWADA: The Opposition party, YSR Congress, raised the issue of poor fund allocation to women. Nagari MLA R.K. Roja said the Telugu Desam government had once again proved that it was anti-women, and that their stance was reflected in the Budget. Ms Roja observed that despite the DGP saying that there had been an 11 per cent increase in crime against women in Andhra Pradesh, the government had not allocated any funds towards their safety.

She pointed out that the government had announced Mahalakshmi Scheme, under which every girl child born in the state was to be given '30,000, but no allocation had been made for the scheme in the Budget. She said the Gorumuddalu and Pandanti Bidda schemes have also been omitted from the Budget proposals, and these omissions were indicative of the government’s apathy towards women.

Ms Roja further alleged that the government had deceived 80 lakh women in SHGs. She reminded that the TD, in its election manifesto, had promised to waive loans of SHGs unconditionally. “But women are being cheated in the name of capital infusion. She said the fund allocated for Dwcra was not enough to pay even the interest on loans. She said that the allocations made for the welfare of the disabled, children and senior citizens, were also inadequate.
