Kerala to explain on munambam trafficking case
KOCHI: The High Court on Friday has asked the state government on the reasons for not handing over the investigation of the Munambam human trafficking case to central agencies. The matter is a serious issue having ramifications for security of the country, the court observed and then asked whether the state government has any surety that national secrets were not leaked.
The court also pointed out that the state police have limits in probing the matter and also queried on the grounds of the assertion that it was not human trafficking. The court made the remarks while considering the bail petition of Anilkumar, owner Dayamath Boat and another person. The Kochi range IG has stated that the Munambam incident was not a case of human trafficking but illegal migration.
Around 100 people including women and children have been smuggled from the Munamban Coast on January 12 in a boat allegedly in the name of Anilkumar. Apart from Anilkumar prabhu Prabhkaran and Ravi Sanoop are the two other persons arrested in connection with the incident.
