Orange alert for north coastal Andhra Pradesh, heat wave forecast for next 4 days

Visakhapatnam: The weatherman has issued an orange alert for north coastal Andhra Pradesh, saying the maximum temperature there would “rise by two to three degrees in the next four days.”

Senior IMD scientist S Karunasagar told Deccan Chronicle that mercury would shoot up in south coastal AP too. But normal temperatures would prevail in Rayalaseema where a trough has been formed.

Dry winds from northwestern India were increasing the temperature and the situation would remain so till a low pressure is formed in the Bay of Bengal and winds in easterly direction start blowing. “This will probably happen during the second week of May,’’ Karunasagar said.

He said ASR district, witnessing sharp rise in the day temperatures, got rains in the evening on Sunday.

Earlier, The state disaster management authority (APSDMA) forecast severe heat wave conditions in six mandals and heat waves in 174 more mandals. Severe heat wave conditions were experienced in Kunavaram mandal in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, Nathavaram (Anakapalli), Kotananduru (Kakinada) and Jiyyammavalasa, Komarada and Parvatipuram (Parvatipuram Manyam).

Similarly, 10 mandals in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, 17 each in Anakapalli, East Godavari and Eluru, 12 in Gunturu and13 in Kakinada had high temperatures.

Four mandals in Konaseema district, nine in Krishna, eight in Nandyal, 16 in NTR, seven in Palnadu, nine in Parvathipuram Manyam, eight in Srikakulam, three in Visakhapatnam, 22 in Vizianagaram and one in West Godavari and Kadapa also faced such situations.

Chintur mandal in Alluri Sitarama Raju district is likely to log the highest temperature in the next four days. The peak temperature of 42.1 C was experienced on Sunday in Nathavaram of Anakapalli district.

According to the disaster management authority, Saturday witnessed "severe heat wave conditions" in the 10 mandals of Anakapalli district, two in Kakinada and one in Vizianagaram, and "normal heat wave conditions" in 55 more mandals.
