Kin of deceased workers get Rs 20 lakh ex gratia
Amaravati: The relatives and villagers of Peda Gottipadu staged a protest in front of Government General Hospital at Guntur on Sunday seeking action against builder and seeking Rs 25 lakh compensation to the kin of seven workers who died in the shopping mall under construction.
The protest concluded after the distribution of compensation Rs 20 lakh compensation to each by minister for social welfare R. Kishore Babu and MLA N. Ananda Babu. The dharna was started at 11.30 and continued till 3 pm.
The protesters demanded registering of a case against builder under SC/ST Atrocity (Prevention) Act, government jobs, sanction of 5 acres of land and Rs 25 lakh compensation to each family of seven workers killed in the incident.
The villagers of Peda Gottipadu also joined the dharna in which leaders and activists of CPI, CPM, YSRC, Congress and other public organisations participated and raised slogans demanding justice to the familes of the deceased and action against gthe builder and contractors.
CPI state assistant secretary M. Nageswara Rao alleged that the negligence of the government is killing workers at the construction sites. He alleged that the TD government is trying to save builder Chukkapalli Ramesh who is associated with the TD. Leaders of the Congress, YSRC, CPM and Dalit organisations blocked the road which stopped the traffic.
Guntur collector Kantilal Dande and other officials rushed to the spot and held talks which did not yield good results in the beginning, but at last the protesters agreed for Rs 20 lakh compensation to each which concluded the protest.
Minister Mr Kishore Babu and MLA Mr Ananda Babu distributed Rs 10 lakh cash and Rs 10 lakh worth cheque each to the kin of seven deceased workers.
