DK Shivakumar arrives in Delhi
Bengaluru: Amidst the anxiety over whom would the AICC leadership choose for the Chief Minister post, Karnataka Congress chief D.K. Shivakumar arrives in Delhi.
Shivakumar and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah, also a former CM, are the strong contenders for the top post. While Siddaramaiah reached Delhi yesterday itself, Shivakumar remained in Bengaluru, citing stomach infection. At the same time, his supporters celebrated his 62nd birthday yesterday.
This morning, before leaving for Delhi, Shivakumar said that he would not resort to “backstabbing” or “blackmail” regardless of what the Congress’ top leadership decides on the matter.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and the state’s newly-elected MLAs arrived at party President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence this afternoon to discuss government formation in the state.
There is buzz that Siddaramaiah has emerged as the frontrunner in the race for the CM post as a majority of the newly-elected MLAs took his name as their choice. Shivakumar’s brother D.K. Suresh met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in the national capital on behalf of his brother yesterday.
