CAG: Wasteful spending in Puducherry departments
Puducherry: Glaring financial irregularities, maladministration and wasteful expenditure in various departments and undertakings of the Puducherry government resulted in losses amounting to several crore, apex auditor CAG has observed in reports tabled in Puducherry Assembly on Thursday. The report says the failure in ensuring genuineness of a firm providing hospital equipment resulted in overpayment of Rs 1.14 crore and the delay in depositing the enhanced compensation for land acquisition in the court resulted in an avoidable cost of Rs 0.93 crore.
The audit of implementation of housing scheme for scheduled caste and other backward community found that the Adi Dravida welfare department failed to finalise the list of beneficiaries in time and the selection of beneficiaries was not handled in professional manner.
The report also found that despite the claim that all data has been computerised, drugs department control had not maintained any database for renewal of licences.
