CBI probe into alleged Waqf board scam
Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has announced the dissolution of Shia and Sunni Waqf boards, following allegations of corruption.
UP Waqf minister Mohsin Raza said here on Thursday that the Chief Minister has given his consent to the decision to dissolve the boards. All legal aspects of the decision have been taken into consideration, he said.
The Waqf boards have been facing serious charges of corruption related to management of properties and this was confirmed by the probe conducted by Waqf Council of India.
The Waqf Council of India had indicted the Shia Waqf chairman Waseem Rizvi and former Waqf minister Mohd Azam Khan for alleged malpractices. The council recently handed over two reports related to both the Waqf bodies in the state, highlighting the irregularities. Discrepancies in maintain rent records of Waqf properties were also pointed out. Later, the Chief Minister recommended a CBI probe into alleged scam in Shia and Sunni Waqf boards.
