Hyderabad: Durgam Cheruvu bridge to have unique lighting
Hyderabad: The Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge will have sophisticated integrated lighting.
Special LED lighting will be put up without using poles or other props. The lighting will not only enhance the driving experience for commuters but also make the bridge a major tourist attraction, officials said. The cost: Rs 12 crore.
Corporation officials, who spent more than 20 lakh working hours to construct the bridge, said they were confident of opening it to the public in October.
The bridge also reduces the distance between Jubilee Hills and Madhapur.
Municipal administration and urban development principal secretary Arvind Kumar along with GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore inspected Durgam Cheruvu and took a stock of the progress in the construction of cable-stayed bridge. Mr Kumar said steel railings and pedestrian pathways will be set up on both sides of the bridge.
Mr Kishore said concerted efforts are being made to complete the project by the end of October.
GHMC sources said that the LED lighting was inspired by the bridge over the river Mandovi in Goa. The lighting will have strokes of red, green, blue, yellow and other colours hitting the base. A decision has to be taken if it will be given to corporate social responsibility for funding.
Sources said that although GHMC officials, including Mr Kumar, had spoken often about setting up a view deck and other amenities, none of these have seen the light of day so far.
They said, therefore, that even the LED lighting could take anywhere between another six months and forever to see any progress.
The concessionaires apprised the officials about the progress made by them. At its span length of 233.85 metres, the cable-stayed bridge stands as the longest in the city.
Extra-dosed cable stay technology is being adopted to preserve the lake. After its completion, the bridge will facilitate the movement of traffic from Jubilee Hills Road No. 45 to Inorbit Mall with its four-lane traffic movement configuration, two-lane cycling track, and an additional footpath of 2.5 metres width.
The Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge is the first project in India to be constructed amid the 24x7 dense traffic of an urban city.
All the works are being carried out at a height of 20m and above from the ground.
