'VIP care' to Sasikala in jail: DIG claims video evidence destroyed

She has submitted second report, which contains information on videos of her interaction with prisoners on critical issues.

Bengaluru: Even as the retired IAS officer Vinay Kumar began an inquiry into the controversial claims made by DIG (Prisons) D. Roopa Moudgil that preferential treatment is being meted out to jailed AIADMK leader V. Sasikala and multi crore stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Kareem Telgi at the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, the whistleblower cop has submitted a second report to five departments, including the DG (Prisons), on Saturday.

Moudgil, who on Friday said that she would stand by her claims and would reveal more information about irregularities inside the jail, submitted the second report to the home secretary, additional chief secretaries, Anti Corruption Bureau chief, DG&IGP R.K. Dutta and DG (Prisons) H.N. Satyanarayana Rao, who she has accused of receiving Rs 2 crore kickback from Sasikala.

She refrained from speaking to the media on the contents of the second report, but confirmed that she submitted the second report. However, it is learnt that she has mentioned about video evidence being deliberately destroyed before she could lay her hands on it and noncooperation of the jail staff.

The three page report reportedly contains information on videos of her interaction with prisoners on critical issues, a few of which were again deleted by the jail staff, and a few CCTV cameras near Sasikala's cell deliberately being kept non-functional. It is said that the report also mentions of a separate gallery provided to Sasikala to meet her visitors.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president and former Home Minister Dr G. Parmeshwar said, “Let the inquiry report come out. Based on the findings of the report, further course of action will be decided. If there is truth in the allegations and the DG has taken money to ensure preferential treatment to VIP convicts and if there is anything in violation of the prison manual book, action will definitely be taken.”
