Bengaluru: Investigation in the Gauri Lankesh murder case is the final stages. By her first death anniversary on September 5, the SIT should solve the case and expose the main players behind her coldblooded killing.
If only they could make a dead man speak, the Special Investigation Team would have long ago solved the Gauri murder case. The man in question was linked to a hardline ‘spiritual’ organisation in Goa. Unfortunately he died in April this year. According to top sources, he allegedly knew the entire conspiracy and was in the “core” team, which identified the target, the hit men and provided logistic support to Gauri’s killers.
Another challenge before the SIT is to trace the two prime pieces of evidence the country made 7.65mm pistol, which was used to silence the activist-journalist and the motorcycle on which her assailants rode on that fateful evening of September 5 last year, when the man on the pillion shot her dead outside her house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The SIT is hopeful of finding the killer pistol is the cache of illicit firearms including 11 country made pistols that were seized by the Maharashtra ATS from the premises of businessman Sudhanwa Gondhalekar at the time of his arrest in Pune on August 10.
Meanwhile, the SIT has shared some important inputs with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the conspirators and assassins of Kannada scholar M.M. Kalburgi.
Two out of the 12 accused, who have been arrested so far in Gauri case - Ganesh Miskin from Hubballi and Sujeet Kumar alias Praveen from Mangaluru, are reportedly behind Prof Kalburgi’s murder, said sources on condition of anonymity.
