Kukatpally residents allege discrepancies in voters list

The names of a number of longstanding residents had been removed, while newcomers had found a place on the list.

Hyderabad: A number of residents in Kukatpally on Saturday claimed that their names were either missing from the voters’ list or had been replaced by ghost IDs despite living in the area for decades.

The names of a number of longstanding residents had been removed, while newcomers had found a place on the list.

The names of family members of TRS leaders were also missing from the voters list.

TRS leader Gottimukkala Venkat Rao, an aspirant for the Kukatpally ticket reportedly found discrepancies in the voters list and four members from his family were reportedly deleted from the list.

Likewise, there are voter-IDs in the names of tenants of buildings demolished for the construction of 2BHK housing at Balanagar.

The area is under construction, but there are people in the voters list residing at that address.

Instead of searching for names in the electoral list, residents have started searching with addresses to find the bogus names.

A resident, C. Kamalakar Reddy said, “There are so many discrepancies. Even in my family, the voters have been deleted. We have been living here since Kukatpally was a village. We searched with our address and there are a number of bogus votes in the list. We started asking our friends to check, who also found that their families were removed while some other names have been entered. We found at least 65 such voters in a very short time.”

He alleged that a similar thing had happened in 2014 and there was certainly a conspiracy by the ruling party leaders.

This deletion was not confined to one division only, but had occurred at several areas like Begumpet, Motinagar, Hydernagar and Balaji Nagar too. However, a GHMC official said that they had issued notices to all parties to collate the list, so that booth level officers could be kept informed about the anomalies in the list, when it came to deletion.

The official said, “There is a special campaign happening for two days at several places where a help desk has been set up. People can come with their ID proof and fill up the required forms for enrollment or updation.”
