Atreyapuram pootharekulu sweet receives GI certificate
Visakhapatnam: Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University, Visakhapatnam, hosted a national workshop on "Geographical Indications and GI Certificate Handover Ceremony for Atreyapuram Pootharekulu" on Friday.
The event, organised by the Centre for Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Group, brought together experts and dignitaries.
University vice-chancellor Prof. Sree Sudha inaugurated the workshop, emphasising the importance of geographical indications (GIs) in preserving cultural and economic aspects tied to specific geographical products. She underlined that GIs are not just legal designations but the collective heritage of a society.
Professor P. Unnati encouraged students to actively endorse the "Vocal for Local" initiative.
Guest of honour Sanjay Gandhi, a government advocate from Chennai, highlighted the remarkable achievement of Andhra Pradesh in securing 17 GI tags, underlining the crucial imperative of safeguarding distinctive products on a global scale.
On the occasion, an MoU has been signed for safeguarding the delicacy – Madagula Halwa. Mr. Maruthi discussed the role of the Andhra University Food Processing Department in fostering innovation.
Members of Atreyapuram Pootharekulu and Producers Association participated in the workshop.
