Karnataka: Govt to form panel to study depletion of underground water table
Mangaluru: The Karnataka government has proposed to constitute a committee to conduct a scientific study and make necessary recommendations for replenishing the depleting underground water table in the Coastal and Malnad regions. Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge said this during the Gram Panchayat members' convention at Mangaluru on Wednesday.
The committee will have representatives from relevant government departments and also members from the ISRO. It will be tasked with conducting an in-depth analysis of the groundwater situation and formulating recommendations for replenishing the depleting underground water levels in the region.
Meanwhile, responding to queries, Kharge highlighted the emergence of differences of opinion among the BJP leaders, particularly following Vijayendra's appointment as the president of the party's state unit. He said that there will be an influx of workers from Janata Dal (Secular) and BJP into the Congress fold ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
