Amaravati: RTC plans punctured by private carriers
Amaravati: The hardship of the APSRTC is increasing day by day due to dropping occupancy. The APSRTC Guntur region is incurring revenue loss of nearly Rs 30-lakh per day due to private vehicles. Beside this, demonetisation, too, is affecting the RO so it has introduced e-POS machines to resolve the currency difficulties of the commuters.
The APSRTC identified 58 places in the district as protection points and deployed employees to attract the public towards APSRTC services. D. Somasekhar and others working at various workshops of Autonagar of Guntur said they used to come to work from Tadikonda in APSRTC buses, but the absence of liquid cash was forcing them to travel in auto rickshaws and cabs.
They said auto rickshaw drivers known to them were offering travel on credit.
The APSRTC has introduced e-POS machines in ticket-issuing counters but these were useful to limited section. Commuters K. Seetaram and S. Gopi and others said the public was habituated to get tickets in the bus itself from conductor and driver.
They said that e-POS machines should be given to the conductor to issue tickets in the bus departure points, which would be helpful to the public. APSRTC regional manager G. Shirhari said that 400 e-POS machines would be introduced to resolve the difficulties in Guntur district.
