Govt clear on rebuild Kerala initiative, says E Chandrasekharan
Kozhikode: The government has a clear picture on how to rebuild Kerala, post floods, says revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan.
“We want to do it without causing further destruction, both economically and environmentally or geographically," he said at a workshop on various construction technologies in worst affected high ranges here on Saturday.
“Districts like Idukki and Wayanad are losing residential spaces to frequent calamities. We are forced to ban construction in areas that landslides hit recently.”
He said the government was seeking the help of experts to create new spaces for building houses for those left homeless using eco-friendly and economical construction methods.
The workshop, part of the United Nations Development Programme, discussed various possibilities of construction in high ranges of Idukki and Wayanad.
District collector Sreer-am Sambasiva Rao, Wayanad sub-collector N.S.K. Usha and experts G. Padmanaban and Maneesh Mohandas also spoke.
