Kozhikode: P K Sasi technically right, says Panel
Kozhikode: The inquiry commission report of CPM on sexual abuse charges against Shornur MLA P.K. Sasi which was leaked out on Saturday supports him as against the general impression that his recent suspension for six months was a sequel to it.
The commission consisting law minister A.K. Balan and lawmaker P.K. Sreemathy held that Mr Sasi did not misbehave with the DYFI leader at the office and there was an undue delay on the part of the woman to complain in the party forums.
Countering her allegation that he had tried to give her Rs 5,000 to appease, the report says it was for the organisational expenses, not personal.
The report, dismissing her contentions, says many party leaders who were present at the office at the said time had stated that there was no possibility for such an act.
There was a rush in the office on the day, and the doors of Mr Sasi's room were not at all closed.
The report again says she did not complain about the concerned organisational forum on the alleged sexual abuse and misbehaviour. Though she termed the transgression as 'sexual abuse', the commission had diluted it as merely a 'conversation improper for a leader'.
The commission also dismissed Mr Sasi's claims that there was a conspiracy against him.
In the state committee, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan himself had suggested that strict action was essential against Mr Sasi as any failure in this would invite shame for the party.
Though few leaders from Palakkad expressed doubts on a strict action, majority green signalled it, sources said.
Even after the disciplinary action, Mr Sasi had shared the dais with CPM leaders. He was found sitting along with CPM Palakkad district secretary C.K. Rajendran at a function held a Co-operative Hospital, Cherpulassery.
However, Ms Sreemathy said the commission report was not in favour of Mr Sasi. Answering queries of reporters, she said the party suspended him after the commission found him guilty.
