Kochi: Heart Link Foundation at Haripad
Kochi: An Heart Link Foundation, with an objective of saving future generations from cardiac diseases, has been launched at Haripad, Alappuzha. Foundation chairman Dr. Moosakunhi, renowned cardiologist, said that increasing rate of cardiac diseases among youngsters will even affect development of the nation. To create awareness on disease prevention, the Foundation will depute one lakh volunteers. It will also ensure service of 10,000 doctors for the initiative.
The Foundation's service is available in 700 panchayats in the state. In every 15 seconds, one death due to cardiac ailment is being reported in the country. During 1990 - 2016 period, the rate of heart diseases in the US registered 40 per cent reduction while the rate increased by 34 per cent in India, he said.
As part of awareness programmes, 143 counselling centres will be set up to help people in better stress management. The Foundation is fucntioing with the support of NGOs and CC, NSS and Red Cross.
