KOZHIKODE: Sr Lucy Kalappurakkal, the rebel nun from Wayanad, has received a third ‘show cause’ notice from the superiors of Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC) expressing dissatisfaction with her earlier replies and warning her of expulsion from the convent. She had participated in the agitation of nuns demanding the arrest of Jalandhar bishop Franco Mulakkal.
The notice issued to her the other day repeated the charges slapped on her by the congregation, including participating in the channel discussions without permission, arriving late at the convent, allowing a female journalist to stay with her without prior permission, finding fault with the Church on key issues and appearing in public without wearing the nun’s uniform.
Sr Lucy told DC that the new notice was just a repetition of the earlier charges. “According to the notice, they are not satisfied with my explanation,” she said and added that she was confused about the reply to be given to the latest notice. “I had received the first notice in January for which I did not reply. In February, I received another notice for which I duly replied. Now they say that they are dissatisfied with the reply. How can I change my reply? I will submit the same reply as the charges are the same and I will not give a different reply to satisfy anybody,” she said. She will try to continue as a nun in the same congregation and support the nuns’ struggle against bishop Franco, she said.
The nun had received a fresh order from the mother-superior deman-ding an explanation to be given to the higher auth-orities before February 6.
