Chittoor starts vaccinating children of 12–14 age group
Tirupati: Expanding its Covid-19 vaccination coverage, Chittoor district administration has started vaccinating from Wednesday children in age group of 12 years to 14 years. About 1.30 lakh children of this age group will be vaccinated in the district.
Covid vaccine being administered to 12–14 years’ new age group is Corbevax, manufactured by Hyderabad-based Biological Evans.
District administration is also continuing administering booster doses to those above 60 years of age.
Incidentally, the first Covid-19 vaccine in this tail-end district was administered on January 16, 2021. So far, 76.19 lakh doses, including both first, second and booster shots have been administered in the district.
As per official statistics, 2.09 lakh first doses have been given to children in age group of 15–17 years. 17.87 lakh first doses and 18.49 lakh second doses have been administered to people in age group of 18–44 years till now. In all, the district has administered 36.96 lakh first doses, 37.97 lakh second doses and 1.26 lakh precautionary doses to people of various age groups.
Intensifying the process, the district has now set a target to inoculate 1.30 lakh children aged between 12–14 years. Stocks of Corbevax reached the district on Wednesday morning along with precautionary doses to be administered to those above 60 years.
While 12–14 years’ children will be given Covid vaccines at their respective schools, district medical and health officials are also planning door-to-door campaigns for immunising this section of kids as well as others.
