Maneka Gandhi calls up SCB CEO over rise in dog bites

SCB is making temporary arrangements for a shed providing infrastructure including operation theatre for sterilising dogs.

Hyderabad: Union minister for women and child development Maneka Gandhi called up Secunderabad Cantonment Board CEO to inform about complaints she received about dog bites.

“I have been receiving call from Ms Gandhi that majority of complaints received are from Secunderabad Cantonment areas on stray animals,” said SCB CEO Sujatha Gupta. SCB had earlier approved the programme by Vet Animal Welfare and Rural Development Society, an NGO for sterilisation and anti-rabies vaccination for of dogs.

However, the arrangements had to be aborted due to protest of residents of colonies located in the Vicinity of Turkapally treaching ground, where the dog clinic was located.

Of late, several complaints were received from residents of Cantonment on the increase in number of stray dogs and dog bites.

SCB is making temporary arrangements for a shed providing infrastructure including operation theatre for sterilising dogs, Ms Gupta said.

At present, there is no hospital in SCB to conduct Animal Birth Control programme. Dogs from Medchal and other outlying areas are said to be migrating to SCB area. There is a need for hospital at both civil and Army area.
