Bill passed to favour PV Sindhu

The TS Chief Minister had made her a similar offer, but she chose Andhra's offer.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday adopted a Bill that will pave the way for the appointment of badminton player P.V. Sindhu as a deputy collector in the government.

Finance and Legislative Affairs minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu introduced a bill to amend the state public services act which will enable the government to fulfil its commitment to Ms Sindhu.

Ms Sindhu won a silver medal in the Rio Olympics and on her return, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu promised her a Group-1 officer’s appointment.

The TS Chief Minister had made her a similar offer, but she chose Andhra’s offer.

She is currently working with Bharat Petroleum Corporation as deputy manager.

The amendment to the Act passed in the state Assembly on Tuesday, allows the appointment to be made.

Mr Naidu said that the state government was committed to encouraging and developing sport activities, especially in the rural areas and was prepared to make the required budgetary allocations for creating the required infrastructure.

The AP government gave Ms Sindhu Rs 3 crore cash reward and 1000 square yards of land for a house in the upcoming capital Amaravati. The Telangana government gave her Rs 5 crore cash reward and 1000 square yards residential plot in Hyderabad.
