Cauvery protest: 50 farmers arrested in Thanjavur for staging rail roko
The farmers were protesting to press their demand to constitute a Cauvery Management Board.
Thanjavur: Nearly 50 farmers under the banner of Cauvery Rights Retrival committee (CRRC) were arrested on Wednesday for staging rail roko at Mariamman temple railway level crossing near Thanjavur, demanding constitution of Cauvery Management Board (CMB), police said.
The protesters shouted slogans and stopped the Karaikal-Ernakulam Express for an hour.
The protest by the farmers pressing for their charter of demands, including withdrawal of a central bill on inter-state river water disputes, entered the 3rd day on Wednesday.
Later, they were detained, they said.
