AP braces for rainfall, temperatures set to drop
Visakhapatnam: The denizens of Andhra Pradesh can heave a sigh of relief as the weather office forecast a fall in temperature from Thursday as a trough has been formed from the AP coast to the south Tamil Nadu stretch.
“Under its influence, AP will have rain all over the state for the next five days. The temperature will drop,’’ IMD scientist at Amaravati, S Karunasagar, told DC on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, heat wave conditions prevailed all over the state for the third day. Barring three places -- Kalingapatnam, Visakhapatnam and Arogyavaram – all regions recorded more than 40 degree Celsius. Jangamaheswaram registered the highest temperature of 45.2 followed by Bapatla 45, and Narasapuram 43.4 degrees.
The temperature rose by 7 degrees in Bapatla, throwing normal life out of gear.
Reports from districts said roads were wearing a deserted look as the severe heat conditions confined the people indoors. The government has sent advisories to regional administrations to set up water kiosks with sufficient ORS packets and keep ambulances ready to handle sun-stroke cases, if any.
In Visakhapatnam city, though the temperature was at 35 degrees, the district collector said 125 water kiosks were set up with ORD packets. Municipal sanitation workers were asked to avoid day work and clean the streets in the early hours of the day and in the evenings to avoid the hot sun.
The GVMC in Visakhapatnam pressed water tankers to the outskirts of the city where bore wells went dry and people were struggling for water. Reports from ASR districts said bore wells and streams have dried up, forcing people to walk distances to get water.
Meanwhile, state disaster management authority said Nellore recorded 45 degrees, Tirupati, Venkatagiri, Nandyal and Palnadu 44 degrees each, Kurnool, Kadapa, Markapuram 43, Alluri, Eluru, Dwarakatirumala, Gurakala, Kambham, Dornala, Anantapur and Sullurpeta 42 degrees C.
