Vijayawada: Six workers were killed and seven injured when the auto rickshaw they were travelling was rammed by a speeding lorry at Pondugala of Dachepalli mandal in Palnadu district on Wednesday.
According to Dachepalli police, about 23 workers hailing from Narsapur village of Damaracherla mandal in Telangana were arriving for work in the morning when their vehicle was hit by a speeding lorry. Under its impact five workers were killed on the spot while another succumbed to injuries at the government hospital at Gurajala. All the injured were undergoing treatment at the government hospital at Gurajala.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced ex gratia of Rs five lakh each to the kin of the deceased and directed the minister Jagadeeswara Reddy and Miryalaguda MLA Nallamothu Bhaskar Rao to extend all relief to the bereaved family members.
