Karnataka: Officer refused to listen to SP's advice?

A meeting of the CM and the Home Minister followed and it was decided to accept her resignation.

Ballari: Ballari SP R. Chetan had sent DySP S.R. Patil to persuade former DySP Anupama Shenoy to withdraw her resignation, but she refused to listen, according to police sources here. Ms Shenoy, who resigned in a huff, allegedly to draw attention to the tyranny of the liquour mafia, refused to open the door for Mr Patil when he went to meet her and bring her to Ballari SP’s office on June 9, sources claim.

“Instead she told the media she was firm on her resignation. This led to the SP writing to the DGP that she was talking with the press but not his officers," said a police officer, adding that the DGP, who could not accept her resignation as she was a gazetted officer, then wrote to the government recommending that it be accepted. A meeting of the CM and the Home Minister followed and it was decided to accept her resignation, he added.

“Going by the service rule book, she cannot now say that the acceptance of her resignation by the government was wrong,” said a senior officer, responding to charges by Ms Shenoy’s family that the government had acted in 'haste' in accepting her resignation, which she had given under pressure from liquor mafia and politicians. As for reports that Ms Shenoy was planning to approach the Governor and the Congress president, an officer said this move would not bring her back her job, unless she requested the government to cancel her resignation.
