Crashland fades as Indian Air Force cadets fly out in colours
HYDERABAD: Spreading the Tricolour on the sky, the Indian Air Force’s Akash Ganga team was delivering a stunning performance as usual. But a crashlanding that occurred due to a sudden wind shocked 113 flight cadets from the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, at the Combined Graduation Parade. While trying to land in front of the audience, in a parade square movement, Wing Commander A.K. Yadav fell down on the ground, breaking the pattern, and was rushed to the Academy Hospital.
Akash Ganga skydiving was the first event of the day that began at 7.35 am and the crashlanding occurred around 7.40 am, before the parade marched in and the arrival of reviewing officer Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa. Landing a few feet away from the dais, the mishap caused panic among the audience. However, everyone was asked not to move from their seats as medical personnel rushed in to help. E. Sreenas, an Academy official, said that it was an untoward but minor incident that was caused by a gust of wind that caught the Commander’s parachute and caused him to lose control.
“We had our medical personnel there and he is recovering well now. He has suffered some minor injuries,” Sreenas said. The skydiving event continued as planned, despite the accident, as the other members were already on air. A.K. Yadav was the first to showcase his talent at the event.
