Jagan to Launch Amma Vodi on June 28

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will launch this year’s Jagananna Amma Vodi that benefits students studying from Class I to XII on June 28.

The state government is yet to decide on the place from where the CM will launch the scheme this year.

A part of YSRC government’s Navaratnalu, Amma Vodi is to encourage parents below poverty line to send their children to school and college by depositing ₹15,000 into the bank account of the student's mother or recognised guardian. The scheme, started in academic year 2019–20, is irrespective of the number of children in the BPL family, whether studying in recognised government, private aided or private unaided schools, junior colleges and residential schools / junior colleges in the state.

The main objective of Amma Vodi is to enhance access to schools and retention, ensure equity to achieve better learning outcomes, contribute to overall development of the child by laying a strong foundation, increase overall gross enrolment ratio at primary and secondary level of education, and impact higher education.

According to an order issued by principal secretary (School Education) Praveen Prakash on Friday, mothers, whose children are studying in Classes I to XII during 2022–23 but have not been covered in the Amma Vodi list of 2021–2022, will be identified for extending the financial benefit.

The eligibility criteria will be like total family income per month being limited to ₹10,000 in rural areas and ₹12,000 in urban areas, and property being less than 1,000 square feet.

₹2,000 will be deducted at source from each beneficiary student and released to school / college committee accounts of government and government-aided schools / colleges. Out of it, ₹1,000 will go for toilet maintenance fund and ₹1,000 for school maintenance fund.

Mothers / guardians, who are getting the benefit under the scheme and sending their children to private, unaided schools / colleges, will also face deduction of ₹2,000. ₹1,000 of it will be credited to District Toilet Maintenance Fund and ₹1,000 to District School Maintenance Fund as per norms.

Class X students opting for IIT / polytechnic and other courses, who are eligible for Jagananna Vidya Deevena and Jagananna Vasathi Deevena schemes, will be excluded from Amma Vodi.
