3 BJP MLAs denied entry into Pondy Assembly

The marshals told the members about the instructions given by the Speaker to restrict entry only to elected representatives.

Puducherry: The three BJP MLAs whose nomination to the Puducherry Assembly by the Centre was upheld by the Madras High Court were denied entry into the House once again by the police on Monday.

The Legislative Assembly entrance on Monday witnessed tense moments after three BJP leaders made a vain attempt to enter the Assembly claiming that the nomination stands valid as Supreme Court did not grant a stay on the Madras High Court judgement.

The three nominated MLAs - V. Swaminathan, K.G. Shankar and V. Selvaganapathy - came to the main entrance on Monday morning immediately after the Assembly session started and urged the Assembly staff to allow them to enter the House.

The marshals told the members about the instructions given by the Speaker to restrict entry only to elected representatives. The members said they have already submitted copy of the SC observation and a memorandum seeking to admit them in the house to the Speaker, Assembly Secretary, Chief Minister and Lt. Governor.

After heated arguments with the marshals the members left the place warning serious consequences for their actions.

The nomination of BJP leaders had earlier been rejected by Speaker V Vaithilingam and the members were denied entry to the Assembly on several occasions even after the court order favoured the members.

At the same time Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy told the house that an all-party delegation would meet the Prime Minister in Delhi on 20 July seeking more administrative powers to the Union Territory.
