Dr K Laxman flies to US to lure Telugus into BJP
Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president Dr K. Laxman flew to the US for a week-long stay to encourage Telugu NRIs to join the party. A special four-member team will be established to conduct regular programme for the BJP NRI cadre.
Dr Laxman is holding closed-door meetings with NRI TRS and Congress members to switch sides.
A senior leader from the BJP told Deccan Chronicle that BJP president Amit Shah had asked Dr Laxman to assure the Telugu NRIs that the party would stand by them in every situation. It is expected that if Dr Laxman succeeds in his mission, not only the Telugu NRI community but also their family members in India will shift to the BJP.When Deccan Chronicle tried to ask about this effort, and how the party was trying to counter it, no TRS leader was available to comment. A senior leader shared that leaders had e got strict instructions from the high command not to speak before the municipal elections.
A Congress spokesperson said, “We have seen in the context of the Telangana movement that NRIs played a very prominent role. Congress has a very vibrant NRI wing led by Dr Sam Pitroda. Probably the BJP is replicating the idea.”
