Supreme Court to hear today plea on Neet row

The medical aspirants in the case are being represented by Nalini Chidambaram before the Apex court.

New Delhi: Even as the Attorney General K.K. Venugopal has given his nod for exemption of Tamil Nadu students from the ambit of Neet, the Supreme Court on Wednesday decided to hear on Thursday a petition seeking a direction to the State to admit students in MBBS/BDS on the basis of Neet marks.

A bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra accepted the request of senior counsel Nalini Chidambaram, appearing for students Ms.Kaaviyaa Nakkiran and five others seeking a direction to Tamil Nadu to conduct counselling for medical admissions based on NEET marks. Counsel said parents and students in the State are anxiously waiting for counselling but the State is not conducting counselling even after the dismissal of the petition on 85 per cent quota for State board students.

Justice Misra told the counsel “we have already dismissed the special leave petition. You give a copy of the present petition to the counsel for CBSE and Medical council of India. We will take it up tomorrow.”
