First Warning withdrawn at Dowleswaram barrage; more floods likely

All the causeways have been cleared due to the receding of the waters and transport facility was restored

KAKINADA: With the floodwaters receding, officials withdrew the first warning at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage in Dowleswaram on Friday evening. Some 9.60 lakh cusecs of excess water was released by 9pm into the Bay of Bengal by lifting 175 gates.

All the causeways have been cleared due to the receding of the waters and transport facility was restored.

The floodwaters have receded in Bhadrachalam and roads are being cleared gradually for normal traffic. However, the water was rising in upstream areas and the people were put on alert again. It is predicted that the rains will come again in the coming two or three days.

Joint collector of Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district asked officials to get ready with mitigation management. He convened a meeting with the officials at Amalapuram on Friday and issued an alert to fishermen across the coast and the people of low-lying areas. Evacuations could take place during the cyclone and heavy rains, he said.
