APIC forum to raise awareness on voting rights
VIJAYAWADA: Chairman of the AP Official Language Commission, P. Vijaya Babu, has said the AP Intellectual and Citizenship Forum (APIC FORUM) is aimed at raising awareness on political, social and cultural issues.
He emphasised the forum's role in countering misinformation related to voter lists, focusing on informing the public with accurate facts. Telugu Desam and other opposition parties were spreading lies regarding bogus voters, he said, and added that over 50 lakh names of bogus voters were registered during the Telugu Desam government’s period. He sought removal of these bogus names.
Advocate Ashok Kumar expressed concerns over the involvement of private companies, citing historical instances during Chandrababu Naidu's term. He referred to the alleged voter list manipulation by a private company, IT Grid, and stressed the importance of accountability.
Another advocate, M Vittal Rao, discussed the significance of avoiding “millions of bogus votes” in the electoral process. He pointed out “deliberate dismissals” during the 2019 elections, emphasising the need for transparency and ethical practices in the electoral system.
Advocate Pilla Ravi underscored the importance of scrutinising voters list discrepancies and the need for fair implementation of the one-person-one-vote principle.
Prof Ramachandra Reddy, member, AP official language commission, criticised media outlets for selective reporting during the times of previous governments and their current focus on false narratives.
Advocates Dhana Lakshmi and B Sowmya sought the inclusion of eligible voters and the removal of ineligible ones. Educationist NV Rao, sought re-examining the “dismissals” and investigating the door numbers with multiple voters. He urged voters to utilise the toll-free number 1950 for addressing their concerns.
