Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills Welfare Association has questioned the grant of permission to the Playboy Beer Garden to operate from Jubilee Hills, Road Number 10 — a residential neighbourhood.
The residents’ association has now taken its complaint to the Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The Playboy Beer Garden is the second franchisee outlet of the American company to be established in the country after Pune.
Residents have been complaining of noise from the parties that are organised by the club, every night. They have warned in a letter to the commissioner that if the GHMC does not take action, they will seek legal recourse. They are also against the permission granted to a private brewery outlet within a residential neighbourhood.
A resident who did not want to be named said live music bands were performing at odd hours, throughout the week despite curbs put in place by city officials.
He said the venue had installed temporary structures which he doubted had permissions.
“This is a silent zone, categorised by the Supreme Court. There are decibel limits that need to be maintained. In case no action is taken, there will be a number of open clubs in the future,” the resident said.
GHMC Commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy has confirmed the complaint and said it remai-ned an inter-departmental problem. “The licence for liquor has been issued by the excise department. The GHMC has only approved the building permission and trade licence. I have asked the West Zone commissioner to issue a show-cause notice in case of violations such as illegal structures — both temporary and permanent. The complaint is under active consideration. The concerned assistant city planner will visit the site at the earliest.”
