Semi-carved Vishnu idol on way to Bengaluru
Krishnagiri: A massive stone block with the semi-carved Vishnu idol has reached Singarapettai in Krishnagiri via Chengam in neighbouring Thiruvanamalai district.
Two stone blocks each weighing 280 tons and the other 236 tons respectively, moved out from the mining site at Korakottai village in Vandavasi taluk of Thiruvanamalai district had reached Krishnagiri district covering a distance of 124 kilometers to Singarapettai here. It is another 149 kilometers trip to reach Bengaluru.
These massive stones are being transported to Bengaluru in neighbouring Karnataka to be carved out as ‘Vishva rupa maha vishnu’ having 11 faces and 22 hands. The statute will be 64 feet in height after completion.
Another statute of seven-headed ‘Aadhiseshan’ will be carved to a height of 22 feet, and these two idols will be installed on a 22 feet high pedestal.
With this, the total height of the statute including pedestal will be 108 feet. The number was selected to 108 ‘Divya Desam (important shrines of vaishna people)’.
A giant truck with 240 wheels, which carry stone blocks, was stopped at Singarapettai to make way for the vehicle to move without causing any damages to buildings.
One face, two hands with chakras were carved out of one rock. The other is being transported without any work.
The sculptors employed for the work have completed the carvings by 2018 end, four years after the stones were excavated.
