Madurai bench asks ADGP to expedite search for baby

The police officer also said that police teams were also looking for the baby at adoption centres.

Madurai: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court directed the ADGP, CB-CID police, to trace the child of T Meenakshi stolen from the Government Rajaji Hospital in the temple city.

When the baby missing case came up for hearing before the division bench comprising Justices A Selvam and M Chockalingam on Wednesday, the CB-CID police said that five special teams have been searching for the baby across the state.

The police officer also said that police teams were also looking for the baby at adoption centres. They assured the court that the baby would be traced soon. However, the bench told the AD GP, CB-CID, to pay special attention to the case and adjourned the hearing to March 24.

It is worth recalling that the infant boy of T Meenakshi from Bommapatti village was stolen from the GRH on 15 June 2013, a day after it was born. The case gained importance after the complainant approached the Madurai bench of Madras High Court after the Madurai city police failed to crack the case.

The court also directed the government to increase the security measures in the government hospitals and ordered the state government to pay a total compensation of '25 lakh to 13 families, whose babies went missing from various government hospitals across the State. Meenakshi also received the compensation.
