Rajahmundry: Government Arts College aims NAAC A++ grade
RAJAHMUNDRY: Government Arts College (autonomous) aims to get National Assessment and Accreditation Council’s ‘A++’ grade by initiating a series of best practices. These grades will help get a huge amount of funds to develop the college. The students get an opportunity to pursue higher studies in foreign universities and also get employment opportunities in multi-national companies.
As the college has already got NAAC ‘A’ grade twice in 2004 and also in 2011 with two years bonus to retain the accreditation status until November, 2018, the college authorities are aiming to get cumulative grade point average score ranging between 4.0 and 3.5+ in order to get ‘A++’ grade to the college. The immediate benefit to the college once it secures such top grade is that it gets Central funding worth '10 crore and also the top grade remains valid for 10 years.
Some of the best practices to be showcased for getting top grade accreditation include: maintenance of poor students aid fund to help meritorious poor students from OC communities with financial help to pay fee in college to pursue studies; lab to school means taking lab apparatus like vernier calipers and other equipment to select schools to help students learn about them and also to know how to use them.
Earn while you learn means helping select students to work as data entry operators for maintenance of bio-metric attendance of nearly 3,500 students while some students are being engaged for painting of wooden furniture of the college and get honorarium from the college. The college also runs an innovative and incubation centre in order to tap ideas from students related to academic and non-academic activities and screen them with experts and implement them for betterment of the functioning of the college.
Singing the national song Vande Mataram promptly at 10 am on all working days, helping students learn through information and communication technology by conducting digital classrooms and virtual classrooms five each and maintaining separate committees of teachers, students, old students besides roping in local public representatives, local people and parents of students to initiate a series of programmes to enhance both academic and non-academic activities of the college.
The college also has NCC cadets and NSS volunteers to involve in a series of social programmes. Government Arts College principal Dr R. David Kumar Swamy said, “As we have all the eligibility criteria to get NAAC top grade, we are going to submit the Self Study Report online soon comprising documentation of what all we have been doing in the college including the best practices soon.”
