Bengaluru: Argue with an Uber driver, get stoned!
Bengaluru: A city resident was assaulted by a cab driver after an argument over how the payment should be made. The driver allegedly threw a stone at the passenger, injuring him, and then fled.
The victim, Udhav Gupta, who hails from Kolkata and a resident of Thanisandra, works for a food and beverage outlet at Manyata Tech Park.
Udhav had booked a cab around 5.30 am on Saturday through Uber to the airport to fly to Mumbai. The pickup point was Wajid Layout in Thanisandra. Before Udhav could board the cab, the driver, Shashikumar, who was standing outside, asked him about the mode of payment.
When Udhav told him that he would pay through a digital wallet, Shashikumar refused and said he wanted cash payment. He told Udhav to cancel the ride. An upset Udhav told the driver that he will not do so and he cannot change the mode of payment even if he wanted to. The two got into an argument and in a fit of anger, Shashikumar picked up a stone and threw it at his face. Before Udhav could react, Shashikumar fled.
Udhav sustained a deep cut near his eyes and a passerby stopped his car and helped him with some water and first-aid.
Udhav said he only had a couple of hours left to catch the flight and he had to travel with an open wound on his face. He got it treated after reaching Mumbai. He posted about the incident on his Facebook page.
Udhav said he has reported the incident to Uber and was waiting for their response. He said that he could not file a police complaint as he is currently in Mumbai.
