Lucknow: One labourer was killed and three seriously injured when the slab of the under construction metro rail in Lucknow collapsed on Sunday morning.
Five other labourers have also been injured in the incident. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital, where condition of two is said to be critical. Others are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. An auto rickshaw was also damaged after part of an under-construction Lucknow metro pillar collapsed in Sardari Khera area.
UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said that an inquiry will also be held to find out how the accident occurred. Senior officials including district magistrate Raj Shekhar and SSP Rajesh Pandey rushed to the site to oversee rescue operations.
Fifteen personnel of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) also reached the accident site to help in rescue operations. SSP Rajesh Pandey said that the incident occurred when metro workers were reinforcing the portion between the two pillars in Alambagh area.
The district magistrate said that no one was trapped in the debris. He said that the debris was being cleared and relief was being provided to the injured. This is the second mishap in the Lucknow metro project. Earlier on April 2, the concrete mixture being laid out on the metro project had fallen down, damaging a car that was parked there. No casualties, however, were reported.
